Am I Just Sensitive?

Last December 21, 2011, by God’s grace, my husband and I reaffirmed our wedding vows in the presence of Christ in our hearts, our family and our closest friends.

Here is the story.  I grabbed some pics from the photographer’s FB site to show it to some friends.  I showed the pictures with excitement because I was so high about God’s Faithfulness. Suddenly, one of them made remarks such as: “ganon talaga angle parati?,”(same face angle on every pic)  “di man lang naedit” (photographer didn’t edit it; she was talking about my light armpit lines).  After such remarks, I really felt bad.  She could have just kept quiet because it felt like she was looking for the flaws of my wedding pics. It seemed to me that she didn’t want to share with my happiness.

Am I just sensitive or is she insensitive? How would you feel if you were in that situation?  Can you tell what my emotion is telling me? I would appreciate your thoughts.

Sonia Kashuk Concealer Palette and Bent Liner Brush

I consider concealer as a must in your basic make-up kit. As we all know, it hides our dark circles, blemishes and other skin imperfections.  My skin is not perfect LOL.  So even I am always in a rush to get to the office on time, I make sure that I have my BB Cream and my concealer on.  Yet I must also confess that sometimes, it leaves me no choice but to leave the house with just my Lip Balm on. Good thing I am using HHN’s Tinted Lip Balm.  It can still give a lift on my look.

Going back to concealer, I have finished my Surprise Essence Concealer which I bought from Etude House few months back.  So last December, I knew that one of our bosses is coming back from the US. Since everyone in the office was asking her to get stuff for them, I immediately shopped for some make-up essentials. By the way, the boss didn’t pay those items for us.  We just asked a favor from her and  items were only shipped to her US address( Now you now how nice she is ;p). In fact I ordered a lot of cosmetics but  only 2 out of 5 items were in stock at that time.  I was eyeing on 3 E.L.F Eyecolor Palettes for 5 USD each.  Since it was peak season (sigh!), I was only able to get stocks from Sonia Kashuk. I bought the Hidden Agenda Concealer Palette and the Bent Eyeliner Brush.

Here are some pictures.

Target.com only packed the items in a small pouch. Look what happened to the setting powder 😦

But, I found a remedy for it :). I washed my empty Ellana Mineral Make-up Jar and transferred the setting powder.

What Kikaymomtrepreneur thinks

Sonia Kashuk Hidden Agenda Palette

Price: I can’t remember I am sorry, but I think I paid Php500 for this

Where to Buy? Target

Rating: 3.9/5.0

(you can click the pic to enlarge)

  • Affordable for a concealer palette
  • Thick texture
  • Good coverage
  • Works for fair to medium skintone (the yellow and salmon shades work for me)
  • Staying power: 4-6 hours
  • Thin layer is sufficient to cover my dark circles
  • Thumbs-up for concealing the puffiness of my eyes (didn’t have this kind of coverage from Etude House Concealer).
  • I like the magnetic lock
  • New packaging comes with 1 sable hair brush and 1 nylon brush (huhu! I have the old packaging so it doesn’t come with brushes but its’ fine)

Tips

  • Use it sparingly . It can get cakey when layered with foundation
  • Use your ring finger instead of a concealer brush. The body/skin heat will help set the concealer thus will have a lesser possibility of setting on fine lines.
  • Not for people with darker skintone

Overall, Sonia Kashuk should come-up with the same palette that has darker shades. This concealer palette only carries the perfect shades for women with fair to medium skintone.

By the way, if you are looking for my post about the Bent Eyeliner Brush, I haven’t used it yet.  So I would probably have a separate post about that;)  Have a blessed Sunday!

Love Minerals Passion Fruit Hydrating Lipstick

Human Heart Nature recently launched the Love Minerals Passionfruit Lipstick.

Regular Price: Php 245.00

Introductory Price: Php 195

Available in 4 shades: Pink Skies (for Pinks/Mauves), Sweet Nectar(for Neutrals), Coral Kiss (for Peaches/Corals),and Earth Angel (for Browns)

How Human Nature Describes it

Most lipsticks contain an array of toxic chemicals such as lead, carmine from crushed insects and mineral oil, which speeds up ageing in skin and lips.  Passionfruit oil is a perfect natural moisturizer for kissable lips without ageing side effect.

Some of the ingredients are Passion Fruit seed Oil, Sunflower Oil, Cocoa Butter, Beeswax and Rice Bran Oil

What Kikaymomtrepreneur thinks

Product Rating:  3.7/5.0

  • 100% natural
  • No yucky taste and smell
  • Creamy texture
  • A moisturizing and shimmer lipstick
  • Sheer finish (I am not sure but this is what it gives to my lips)
  • Day and work lipstick
  • Minimal lip dryness/perfect for chapped lips
  • Perfect to blend with darker lip colors (use it as base for minimal lip dryness)
  • Staying power is only up to 3 hours (Based on research, shimmer/moisturizing lipsticks easily wear-off and reallly needs reapplication because it is similar to tinted lip balms.)
  • Only 4 shades to choose from 😦 but you can experiment your own color by blending these shades
  • Pink Skies is too light for my skin tone

Here are the swatches.

Overall,  I use Sweet Nectar shade as my work lipstick. The product is perfect for everyday use because I love the benefits I can get from its’ organic ingredients. The fact that it is called a hydrating lipstick, it helps minimize the appearance of lines on my lips.

Make-up Setting Spray

Have you ever heard of a product that sets your eye color and foundation/powder for hours? This type of product is called a make-up setting spray.  What is a make-up setting spray?  It is a beauty product that seals your make-up for hours.  Thus, giving your face a healthy glow and a matte finish. Perfect isn’t it?!  The kikay mom never uses this until she discovered Model in a Bottle Make-up Setting Spray from Marlena, CEO and writer for Makeupgeek.com.

Several brands produce the same type of products, such as Mac, Urban Decay, Motives, and Graftobian.  These brands are locally available which you can purchase from bazaaristas and multiply sellers (except for Mac).  Although I can purchase a finishing spray from multiply, I opted to choose a brand that is not available within our shores, that is,  Model in a Bottle Make-up Setting Spray.  This brand stood out among my choices because it already had 2 TV appearances (Tyra Banks Show and Oprah Winfrey show). Plus, there’s a video on the site that shows how effective the product is.

Despite the fact that it’s not available in the Philippines, I was still able to get one for myself.  How?  Well, thanks to my friend whose relatives live in US hehe!

Model in a Bottle Make-up Setting Spray

Size: 60ml

Price: approximately Php1,600 – Php2,000

Where to purchase: www.modelinabottle.com or from Kikaymomtrepreneur (hehe)

How Jill Stephens (creator of Model in a Bottle) describes it

  • Holds foundation and eye make-up in place throughout the day and night
  • Works with any type of eyeshadow (cream, mineral, powder, gel, liquid)
  • Comes out in a really fine mist
  • No more touch-ups
  • Sits on the outside layer of the skin because of its’ big molecules, thus will not clog pores

How to apply:

  • Apply it as soon after mascara has dried up
  • Close your eyes
  • Hold the bottle at least 12 inches away from your face
  • Spritz it on
  • Wait for 30 seconds before opening your eyes

 or for Full Strength Application

  • Spray it on the palm of your hands
  • Rub your hands together
  • Pat it on your cheeks

What kikaymomtrepreneur thinks:

 Rating: 4.7/5.0

Let the photos speak 😉 No touch-ups!! Promise!

Overall,  though I don’t like its’ strong scent, this product is perfect for special occasions and night-outs!

Make-up Workshop Part1: Suesh

How was your weekend ladies? If you were to ask me how my weekend went, it was so good because I attended my very first make-up workshop at Suesh.

Suesh is known for its’ high-quality make-up tools at affordable prices.  They often conduct a 3-hour Basic and Advanced Make-up workshops, and I took advantage of it. I came across their multiply store last November 2010 when I was supposed to get a cosmetic case. Yet, I saw a link that says Make-up Workshop.  Upon seeing the link, I had to choose whether to buy a cosmetic case or attend a make-up class, but because of my passion to enhance my basic make-up skills,  I immediately sent a message to Ms. Sheryll Ong ,  owner of Suesh,  to reserve a slot for the Basic Make-up Workshop instead. The module includes topics on Skincare, Day, and Night Make-up.  Finally, my much-awaited make-up workshop happened last February 5, 2011.

Suesh Mini Make-up Workshops are often scheduled on weekends, and they hold sessions at their Victorian-themed showroom located in Greenhills. I just failed to take photos of it due to excitement hehe.  It was like heaven.  They sell almost all-kinds of professional cosmetic tools, from cases, brushes to artist palettes, etc. . . anything that you can think of.

Hearing Ms. Suzanne’s introduction about skincare and make-up application felt like I had enough basic knowledge in make-up artistry, but then I was wrong. The moment we had our hands-training, my hands turned cold and it felt like it was my first time to hold my make-up brushes. Believe me! lol.

Now, what is the most challenging part? The most challenge part of the session  for me was shaping my brows.  It took me an hour to get the perfect shape lol.

Here are the photos I would like to share with you.

Ms. Suzanne teaching us the right stroke in applying liquid foundation and answering the students’ questions. As you can see, each student is provided with a lighted vanity mirror.

We were required to come without any make-up on, but I failed to take a photo of myself prior to make-up application.  So I just grabbed a photo from my mobile phone that can support the “no make-up description” hehe.  I am not confident that I did well so be the judge. hahaha.

And of course, I get to take home my 21-pc Professional Brush Set.

I was supposed to purchase the 28-pc Brush Set but when I told Ms. Suzanne about my plans, she suggested this set instead.

Until next update.
